I really appreciate this type of video. Definitely subscribing. I’ve watched a bit of garage gym reviews but I feel like he gets a lot of kickback to not be so brutal and tbh he lists equipment that’s really expensive for an average persons home gym
I actually started with the older model of that Reebok bench before you talked me into the AB 5200 2.0 (thank you)! I weigh 250-260 and it held up better than I thought but it was the discomfort of the hard bench and its texture that first got me wanting another bench but as I got stronger and started getting stronger and feeling it flex below me is when I decided to move up, but I kept it for box squats and (lighter) step up type movements.
It's not bad as a fitness product it's just not good for strength. Incredibly uncomfortable and they're a bit generous in what you can really do with it. The 5200 is a great bench though! Hapoy I could help.
If I had money to burn, I'd have probably gone in a different direction. But we may never know, because I really don't have any money to burn. Tempted by the "Uncle Muscle" plates though. Wish I could get the nieces and nephews to call me that.
Learnt previous years when i first invested in home gym equipment during covid that if you buy cheap you buy twice. Now I'm committing to a home gym again I'm going for high quality high end equipment which may be a hefty sum in the short term but a good investment long term. Thanks for all you do Gluck
Benching on that Reebok bench makes you a hero. Incline benching on it makes you a…well, not a legend, because legends never die, but ballsy at the least!
Thanks for making me LOL while rowing during the uncle muscle commentary. I had to stop for a minute cause I was having involuntary snorts. Great video
There’s an Amazon flat bench for ~50 which is pretty solid. Together with $1/lb weights from Walmart and a squat stand similar to the one you showed but much more solid, I had a pretty nice setup. And cheap enough that I left it outside. Bar was a rogue OPB from the boneyard, so I splurged there, but kept that inside. For ~500 I had a pretty sweet setup!
Eisenlink, bump up a tier. Can pick up the longer screws and plates in smaller increments (30 lbs per set) to add another 80 lbs per dumbell. Tops out at 160 per dumbell.
I have to admit, I did initially buy a Cap Barbell pullup/Squat thing that almost killed me... then promptly bought a Rep Squat rack. Felt so stupid, but at least I learned my lesson.
i'm going to weight ;) til after christmas to see if anything goes on sale, but i'll be using your affiliate links to get the 810 XLT and perhaps some other stuff just based off of the quality of the video and the effort you put into these reviews. also subbing
hey Gluck - can you make a video that shows what gym equipment is needed to cover most typical exercise routines? I.e- presses, legs, arms, back etc.... And then suggest 3 options to cover a variety of workouts? Not all workouts are as effective so for me planning I want to not spend money on equipment with minimal returns. Hope that makes sense - Love the videos
You talk about CAP bumper plates on Amazon, there a few different varieties. Are the competition or elite bumpers any good? They are slightly more expensive but wondering if any better
A lot of the cheapo Amazon or equivalent are perfectly good for 99.9% of home gym trainers! No one actually warrants an ultra thick gauge metal power cage with a capacity of 800kg, dumbbell benches with 500kg weight capacity, commercial quality equipment in general is an utterly pointless waste of money as only WSM competitors ever get remotely close to these weight figures. You don't need Olympic weights as most never lift close to the limits of Standard/1" . Powerblok style dumbbells are a bulky, dangerous to use injury creator. Unless you are rich with near endless space all you need is a good quality dumbbell bench ($350 MAX) squat/bench stands with safety catchers ($300 MAX) Standard sized dumbbell handles/straight barbell/EZ curl and a decent amount of weight and plate sizes. A doorway dip bar, dip bars or a power tower of both. Exercise bands. Landmine holder. A multi gym adds cables. With that, most of which I bought secondhand/used and over time. It forces you to train basics (Deadlift, Squats, Chin ups, Bench Press, Dips etc) train properly and achieve much greater results than going to the local gym and wasting time messing about with machines. You WILL build a much greater foundation on which you can grow and progress from.
I got a fitness realty adjustable bench including decline from Amazon and it beats the shit out of the Reebok. The fitness realty squat rack with pull bar is also better than that Jx crap
why pay 200 bucks for a non solid steel rod with some discount inserts? why not just buy a solid high carbon steel rod and get some threads for locking plates on? should be less than 50.-
That photoshopped lifter was nothing compared to the look on your face rowing with a cheap band attached to a plastic aerobic step. That sir is quality content!! LOL.
Yes, but the stronger plastics are significantly more expensive and NOT what is being used in these cheap beaches. I use all kinds of metal, woods and plastics in construction/carpentry and wood and metal are always a better bang for buck and performance. Plastics are amazing, but the super strong stuff still needs to be super thick or crazy complex designs to maintain the level of strength most woods or metals have. Those nice plastics are also much more expensive. If you're not lifting more than the recommended weight limit on those cheap plastic benches then its likely gonna serve you just fine; and more power to you, but I've personally found cheap benches (both metal and plastic types) to be uncomfortable, wobbly and less stable overall. The weight of your bench easily effects all of these; the heavier it is, the more solid it feels. So pros and cons. But for most people getting into lifting, they will outgrow a plastic bench pretty fast with average strength gains. You might as well pay a fair bit more and have a bench that is not only much more comfortable to use but will keep up with you until you start lifting more than 250lbs.
Yeah that's a good point. I just bought some 2 ton plastic wheel supports for getting under a car. But the bench is only as strong as its weakest point.
Time to do a video on the most ridiculous, and definitely not straight out of Google translate, item descriptions on Amazon. For sure my fav part of this video!
Please DO NOT buy horse stall mats!! The smell is absolutely horrible and just doesn’t go away. It permeated throughout the whole house now. I know they’re 3/4 of an inch thick but I don’t care anymore. It is so bad that I cover what I can with a painters tarp until I can replace it with something else. You get what you pay for that’s all I can say.
I bought a 3/4" thick 4x8 sheet of OSB/ plywood from Lowes, had them rip it down the middle, then screwed the two pieces together for a 1.5" thick 2x8 DL platform. Cost well under $50 and is plenty of room to DL on. No horse stall mats for me.
Gluck is putting his life on the line for our entertainment. Thank you sir
